4 Cup day-old bread, cubed
2 Cup sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
10 eggs, slightly beaten
4 Cup milk
1 Teaspoon dry mustard
1 Teaspoon salt
1/4 Teaspoon onion powder
Fresh ground pepper, to taste
1 Package sausage, cooked, drained and crumbled
1/2 Cup sliced mushrooms, optional
1/2 Cup chopped tomatoes, optional


Place bread in a well-buttered 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese. Combine the next six ingredients. Pour over the bread and cheese. Sprinkle sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes over the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees for about an hour. Tent with foil if top begins to brown too quickly.
