1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed

1 9-inch pie shell

3 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups milk

4 eggs, beaten

1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1/4 cup dry bread crumbs

Cut asparagus spears into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Cook in a small amount of water until tender; drain and set aside. Bake pie shell at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Melt butter, stir in flour and salt. Gradually add milk; cook and stir until thick. Stir a small amount into eggs, then return all to pan. Stir in cheese and asparagus pieces. pour into crust. Sprinkle with bread crumbs Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until a knife inserted into center comes out clean.
