1    cup sugar

          1    cup water

          3    cups flour

          3    teaspoons baking powder

       1/3    cup sugar

       1/2    cup shortening

          1    cup milk

          3    tablespoons butter, melted

          3    cups finely chopped apples

          1    cup cooked apples

       1/2    cup sugar

       2/3    cup water

Boil 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water for 5 minutes. Pour into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Mix flour, baking powder and 1/3 cup sugar. Cut in shortening. Add milk to form dough. Roll into a 12-inch square. Brush with butter and spread with the apples. Roll as for a jellyroll. Cut into slices and place in baking dish. Bake at 420 degrees for 30 minutes. While apple roll is baking, combine 1 cup cooked apples, 1/2 cup sugar and 2/3 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until well combined. Pour over baked apple roll.
