1     cup butter

           2     cups flour

       1/2     cup powdered sugar

           1     8-ounce package cream cheese, softened

           2     cups sugar

           2     eggs, at room temperature

           1     teaspoon almond extract

                  Sliced almonds, optional


Mix together butter, flour and powdered sugar and press into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. While crust is baking, combine cream cheese, sugar, eggs and almond extract, beating well. Pour over baked crust and bake for 20-30 minutes. Cool. For frosting, mix together 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 cup butter,        1 1/2 teaspoon almond extract and 2 tablespoons milk; then frost the cooled bars. Sprinkle with sliced almonds, if desired.
